Sinningia ‘Deep Purple Dreaming’, 2009, IR091116, David Zaitlin, KY. (S. concinna x S. sellovii). Cross made and planted 2001, first flowered 2002. Sterile and reproducible only vegetatively. Tuberous with erect growth to 20 cem or more. Leaves hairy, dark olive or reddish green above, red on abaxial surface, up to 6.5 cm long x 4.5 cm wide with 5mm to 2 cm long petioles, elliptic with crenate margin, acute tip and cordate base. Calyx split, green, 7 mm long, pedicel 4.5 cm with 1-2 flowers per leaf axil. Corolla salverform, 2.5 cm long x 1 cm across limb, 5 mm wide tube, deep purple with spotted throat. A very distinctive hybrid, quite different from S. ‘Tinkerbells’. All parts delicate, but plant is robust, easily propagated by stem cuttings.
