Welcome to the African Violet and Gesneriad Society of Western New York

Our Society was organized in January 1952 and has been affiliated with the African Violet Society of America (AVSA), affiliate of the New York State Violet Society since 1953, and The Gesneriad Society since 2002.

Our meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month except February at Greenfield’s Health and Rehab Center, 5949 Broadway, Lancaster, NY 14086 at 7:00 pm.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Annual African Violet and Gesneriad show that is open to the public.
  • Pot Luck dinner held in  January, Picnic in the summer

AT EVERY MEETING:

  • Leaf exchange.  A great way to add new varieties to your collection
  • Membership drawing.  A  member wins a plant or related prize
  • 50-50 drawing
  • Coffee and Pastry served

MONTHLY PROGRAMS MAY INCLUDE:

  • Workshop in repotting, grooming, propagation and more. Educational slide programs rented from the AVSA, NYSAVS, and Gesneriad Society libraries.
  • Slide programs of local, state & national shows
  • Guest speakers include leading commercial growers and judges, convention and show winners and hybridizers.
  • Gesneriad seminars
  • Gesneriad and African Violet design programs.
  • Gesneriad and African  Violet culture: soils, fertilizers, watering, light.
