Primulina ‘Zhou’s Silvery Sparrow’
Primulina ‘Zhou’s Silvery Sparrow’, 2021, IR211653, hybridized by Fang Wen, Wei-Chuen Chou; Guangxi Institute of Botany; Guilin, China. (P. subrhomboidea ‘Star Sand’ x P. mollifolia). Cross made 04.20.2019, seeds planted 11.11.2019, first flowering 04.30.2020. Sterile, reproducible only vegetatively. Basal rosette, stem ca. 1 cm. Leaves grayish green, full of silvery particles on the abaxial surfaces of leaves, look similar to bright sands/stars in the dark night-sky, 7-8 cm long, 6-7 cm wide, 4-6 cm petiole, orbicular with cordate to cuneate base, rounded tip, crenate margin, smooth. Calyx split, brownish green, ca. 8 mm. Length of the pedicel 1.5-2.5 cm, 4-8 or more flowers per axil. Corolla salverform, ca. 2.0 cm long, ca. 1.6 cm wide, bright purple, throat having two brightly yellow and some purplish red stripes inside. Mid-size plant. Prefers brightly scattered natural light; moist but well-drained & calcium-rich substrate (equal to PH ≥7.0); do not over-fertilize and overwater, sensitive to cold.
