Streptocarpus ‘Ohio’s Blue Skies’

Streptocarpus ‘Ohio’s Blue Skies’, 2016, IR161333, hybridized by Daniel Steele, Ohio  (S.kirkii S. saxorum). Cross made 08/2009 , planted 11/19/2009, and first flowered 06/25/2010.  Fertile. Reproducible only vegetatively. Plant has a trailing habit, makes nice cascading hanging basket.   Leaves medium green,  1 ¼” long x 3/4” wide with 3/8” petiole, hairy, ovate with cordate base and acute tip. Calyx split, green with touch of red, 1/16-1/8”. Pedicel 3/4” with up to 12 flowers per axil. Corolla salverform, 1” long x 7/8” wide, sky blue. Nice blend of a seed parent high bud count with a pollen parent sky blue flowers. Most branches produce a whorled pattern of a pollen parent. Flower is somewhat smaller than S.saxorum.
